These ASTM Class 7 cast iron grip-handle weights are designed for routine scale verification and service applications for high-capacity weighing devices. The gold finish identifies the weights as metric, while the grip-handle design makes larger capacities easier to lift, carry, and position on the scale platform.
Cast iron grip-handle weights larger than 5 kg/10 lb are legal-for-trade in design, making them appropriate for checking weighing devices used in commercial transactions. They are commonly used by weights and measures officials, device installers, and service technicians to test many Class III, IIIL, and IIII scales, as well as scales not marked with a class designation.

Formerly designated NIST Class F, this product family is now classified as ASTM Class 7. NIST Class F was retired for new field weights used in legal metrology applications after January 1, 2020.
