More About this Item

Mag-Probe® is a magnetic sensing instrument used to trouble-shoot AC and DC powered solenoids, solenoid valves, relays, mercury wetted relays, heat controllers and test coils used in robotics— even automotive alternators, voltage regulators and electronic ignitions systems. Unit is ideal for testing the largest to sub-miniature solenoids, relays and most reed relays and all automotive applications.

REVIEWS

Mag-Probe High Sensitivity

5

We use it to ensure magnetism is present and then to make sure the magnetism is gone after our checking for cracks.

VERY GOOD TOOL FOR TROUBLESHOOTING IF

5

I use the the Mag-Probe in the field to check coils on solenoid valves to see the coil is good. The probe works very well at sensing magnetic fields on solenoid valves and relays. It is somewhat fragile and has to be handled with some care. This is the second one I bought and would recomend it as a useful troubleshooting tool

PROS: This device is a "must-have" for anyone who works with solenoids, actuators, solenoid valves, or anything that operates via magnetic fields. When the included sensitivity ring is used, the device can be adjusted for amazing sensitivity, so the pick-up of small reed relays can be detected. You may discover your own new and useful ways to implement this handy tool! CONS: This is a very sensitive instrument, and as such, it can't withstand very rough handling. That is not to say you have to keep it in a jewelry case, but it may not survive a high drop. If treated with reasonable respect, the device will last a good long time.

this is a very handy tool for checking voltage on solenoid coils, and tight spots. i'm a service tech and people always ask me where they can get one. the biggest down fall is that they break very easily. the blue part needs a heavier plastic coating or a metal sheath that only exposes the tip. i bought 2 a month ago and one is broke already, that sucks for the price of these.

Extremely handy

5

Very handy to test and troubleshoot electric solenoid valve operation. Just hold it next the the coil of the valve and you will know if and when it is energied/

Q&A

Can you change the battery?

Mike

Unfortunately, there is no way to change the battery.

Katie

Does it need to plug into a voltmeter, or does it just light up?

I use it all the time great time saver and a great diagnostic tool. it lights up when it senses a magnetic field. ( FLUX ) ( ie ) energized coil in a relay or energized coil in a solenoid valve. I have had mine for years. However very important, do not store anywhere near a magnet. it is very sensitive and will light near a magnet. Draining the internal battery that unfortunately is NOT replaceable a draw back on on my model maybe the newer ones allow for a battery change.

This item does not need to be plugged into anything. It is a stand alone item.
