Cole-Parmer offers a complete line of vacuum pumps for laboratory, environmental sampling, process and OEM use. From free-standing vacuum pumps to self-regulating pumping systems Cole Parmer UK offers vacuum pump technologies to cover a wide range of ultimate vacuum down to 1 x 10-8 mbar (7.5 x 10-9 Torr).

Use the vacuum pump selection guide below and browse through our on-line catalogue to find your vacuum pressure pump, alternatively contact our Application Specialists for free technical support.

Vacuum Pump Selection Guide

The technology chosen for vacuum pressure pump applications is largely dependent on the desired vacuum level:

  • For ultimate vacuums down to 0.3 mbar (0.2 Torr) consider:
    • Diaphragm Vacuum Pumps
    • Piston Vacuum Pumps
    • Venturi Vacuum Pumps
  • For ultimate vacuums down to 2 x 10-3 mbar (1.5 x 10-3 Torr) consider:
    • Rotary Vane Vacuum Pumps
  • For ultimate vacuums down to 1 x 10-8 mbar (7.5 x 10-9 Torr) consider:
    • Turbomolecular Vacuum Pumps

When selecting a vacuum pump in addition to the ultimate vacuum required consideration also needs to be given to:

  • Chemical compatibility - Assess the compatibility of the gases with the pump and any potential problems with the process gas (eg moisture). Cole-Parmer offers many chemically resistant options for highly corrosive applications.
  • Pumping speed (volume flow) and pressure requirements – Assess the vacuum pump’s capability to produce both the required pumping speed (volume flow) and throughput (mass flow) against the process’s needs by using the equation Q (gas load) = S (pumping speed) x P (pressure) calculation.
  • Pump Installation – Including port connections and requirement for ancillary equipment such as a roughing pump.
  • Pump Maintenance – Including frequency of maintenance cycles and required level of expertise to carry out the service.
  • Costs – Consideration should not only be given to the initial purchase price of the vacuum pump but also the operating costs, maintenance cycles and cost.
