Cole-Parmer UK offers a range of benchtop freeze dryers that are available with system capacities from 1L, 2.5L, 4.5L and 6.5L. Upon request with our technical staff we are able to offer console sizes up to 18L in capacities. Our range in freeze dryers include variations in refrigerator collectors that cool to -50°C and -84°C as well as teflon-coated models for more corrosive compounds. Our freeze dry systems are designed to handle the lyophilization needs of research and pilot plant laboratories, with the lower temperature collectors ideal for freeze drying samples with low eutectic temperature.
Freeze drying involves the removal of water or other solvents from a frozen product. Freeze dryers carry out three steps for this process – prefreezing, primary drying and finally secondary drying. Freeze drying has been used in a number of applications however it is most commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry, for example stabilization of living material such as microbial cultures, preservation of animal specimens and the concentration and recovery of reaction products. once freeze dried properly, products do not need refrigeration and items can be stored at ambient temperatures.
To complete your freeze drying systems, you will require the following components:
Freeze Dryer – Cole-Parmer’s catalogue range carries capacities up to 6L with temperatures of -54°C and -84°C, however larger capacities of up to 18L are available upon request.
Drying System Platforms - Depending on your application, Cole-Parmer’s freeze dryers offer a range of drying platforms. The drying platforms are the interfacing device that conducts solvent from the sample to the freeze dryer and may connect or hold sample containers.
Chamber platform
Either accommodates sample shelving or provides flexible port connectivity for up to 12 or 16 sample flasks. Shelves maybe used for either bulk samples or bottles and are available with heaters to accelerate the freeze drying process.
Manifold
For parallel lyophilization using small containers
Stoppering Tray Dryer
For batches of small vessels or bulk sample on shelves. Vessels are then vacuum sealed in situ
Vacuum Pump – Also available chemical resistant models to enable freeze drying with more aggressive solvents
Sample containers - Sturdy, borosilicate glass vessels options include flasks, serum bottles, vials, and ampules
Add this option:
- Shell Freezer – for preliminary freezing of samples. Improves freeze drying efficiency by maximizing samle surface area in cylindrical fast free flasks. Available as stand-alone or integrated unit.
Typical Application for freeze dryers
