Color & Gloss Meters

Color meters and gloss meters are ideal for quality control inspections for painted surfaces, graphic arts, plastics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, food applications and other products for quality assurance. Some color meters work by shining a light on a sample and passing the reflected light through red, green, and blue filters. Photodetectors measure the intensity of light passing through each filter and the results are displayed. Software allows you to calculate color using different formulas, such as CIELAB, Hunter Lab, CMC, LCh, XYZ, Yxy, and CIE94. This type of color meter correlates with the way the human eye perceives color. Another method some meters use to measure color involves a spectrophotometer. Light illuminates the sample and the reflected light passes through a filter breaking it into its spectrum, which is measured by a spectrophotometer. This method gives a spectral analysis of color.
Gloss meters look at the ratio of incident light to the amount of light that is reflected from the surface at a given angle. This ratio is compared to the reflected light off of a black standard and the results are displayed in gloss units.
